White House plans to loan inspectors to Cerasoli
Associated Press Reporting
|
President Bush's hurricane recovery chief says federal agencies plan to loan inspectors general to New Orleans' government watchdog while that office continues to get established.
Retired Major General Doug O'Dell says one of his charges is to ensure transparency in the way hurricane rebuilding money is spent. He says he's met with New Orleans Inspector General Robert Cerasoli and is excited about the role that office can play in helping account for recovery dollars.
Cerasoli started work last September and has dealt with bureaucratic snags as he's tried to ramp up.
O'Dell says federal agencies will contribute auditors and investigators to Cerasoli's office, to help with whatever priorities he has, until he hires enough people for the office to stand on its own. Currently, O'Dell says, Cerasoli has only a three-member staff, including himself. |
