Tulane fraternity charter suspended amid hazing allegations
Associated Press Reporting
An attorney says more than 10 fraternity pledges at Tulane University were burned with hot water and pepper spray during a ``hell night'' initiation.
Eight members of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity have been arrested and two other members are being sought. The university suspended the fraternity and started its own investigation into the alleged hazing, which took place April 25th and 26th.
Police say the fraternity members who surrendered were booked with felony aggravated second-degree battery. That charge carries up to 15 years in prison.
Attorney Frank D'Amico Junior, who represents one of the pledges allegedly burned, says more than 10 men were burned. He said at least two pledges were severely burned and reported the attack to police. D'Amico says his client suffered second- and third-degree burns.
The national Pi Kappa Alpha group has condemned the alleged hazing and suspended the chapter's membership.
