Teen drowns at Covington park

Covington Police say a 15 year old boy drown Tuesday afternoon while swimming in the Bogue Falaya River.

Investigatiors say the boy was pulled under the water while swimming in a restricted area of the river.  Police say the water level was much higher than usual in that section of the river due to recent heavy rains, and believe the victim may have been pulled under the water by a sunken tree.

Two other boys who were with the victim at the time of the incident were not hurt.

"We're a very close-knit community, and to lose a young man at the very beginning of spring before school let out really hurts," said Covington Police Spokesman Sgt. Jack West.
