The Director of the St. Tammany Parish Office of Homeland Security, Dexter Accardo, says even though the hurricane plan is in effect for 2008, that won't stop parish officials from trying to make it even better.
"If we come up with some idea some idea that's better than one we have now...we will implement it," said Accardo. "We're not etched in stone in anything we do."

Among steps St. Tammany Parish has taken to improve its operations is the acquisition of a mobile satellite communications facility, so the parish can stay in touch with the outsides world in the event of a disaster. Severed lines of communication was one of the major problems the parish had when dealing with Hurricane Katrina.
"I think every year, we learn some," said Parish President Kevin Davis. He says they have seven different backup systems to keep communications up and running.
