Single engine plane makes emergency landing near Gramercy
WWL's Mike Conti Reporting
|
The pilot of a single engine aircraft was able to make a safe emergency landing in a field off the Interstate 10 near Gramercy Friday, after telling air traffic controllers he may attempt to land on the Bonnett Carre Spillway Bridge.
Louisiana State Police moved units into place to close the Interstate 10, Interstate 55 and Airline Highway west of Armstrong International Airport in case the pilot attempted a landing on any of those highways.
"Fortunately, everything worked out because of the fast response of State Police and the local law enforcement departments in those areas," said State Trooper Rick Meyer.
Air traffic controllers at Armstrong International Airport say they lost contact with the aircraft shortly after it departed Baton Rouge and radioed a distress call.
Nobody on the plane or on the ground was injured in the incident. |
