For twenty-five years, Grammy Award winner Irma Thomas has serenaded generations of family members on Mother's Day at Audubon Zoo. This Sunday, Irma Thomas & The Professionals will take to that stage again at 2:30. The entertainment begins at 12:30 with songstress Ingrid Lucia and the Flying Neutrinos.
Of course, mom gets in free. And mom won’t have to cook on her special day, with plenty of great food available, including fried eggplant with crawfish cream sauce, Jamaican chicken with rice, fried soft-shell crab po-boys and boiled crawfish.
"And if anyone needs a last-minute gift for mom, they can buy a gift of jewelry from our jewelry vendors," says Spokeswoman Chimene Connor. Local artists will be selling jewelry.

As a special tribute to Irma Thomas, zoo visitors will be encouraged to sign a special oversized silver canvas appreciation card to be presented at the conclusion of Irma’s performance. To commemorate the 25th anniversary of this concert, visitors have a chance to register for 25 prizes throughout the day.
Zoo hours are 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
