NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- The New Orleans Saints signed former LSU offensive lineman Carnell Stewart and three other players who received tryouts during rookie camp last weekend.
Stewart, who grew up in Metairie, home of the Saints' suburban training headquarters, started at right tackle for the Tigers last season during their run to a national championship. He also played for John Curtis High School and began his college career as a defensive lineman before switching to the offensive side of the ball in 2006.
Saints general manager Mickey Loomis announced the acquisition of the 6-foot-5, 320-pound lineman on Wednesday, along with the signings of quarterback Travis Lulay, defensive tackle Marcus Pittman and wide receiver Carlos Robinson.
To make room on the roster for the new players, the Saints waived offensive linemen Nate McManus and Akim Millington as well as receiver Evan Moore and quarterback T.C. Ostrander, who all had been acquired as undrafted free agents shortly after last month's draft.
Lulay, who is 6-2, 216 pounds, played at Montana State and signed with the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted rookie free agent in May of 2006. He was a member of the Seahawks' training camp rosters for the past two seasons and played for the Berlin Thunder of NFL Europe in the spring of 2007.
Lulay left Montana State as the school's all-time passer after throwing for 10,746 yards and 58 touchdowns.
Pittman was a two-year starter at Troy. The 6-4, 290-pound defensive lineman had 42 tackles, 5.5 tackles for losses, one sack, an interception, a fumble recovery and a blocked kick in 25 games.
Robinson, who is 6-1, 180, last played in 2006 at Grand Rapids (Mich.) Community College, catching 28 passes for 421 yards.
