New Orleans council votes to investigate mayor's technology office

New Orleans city council members are launching an investigation of the Mayor's Office of Technology. Some members of the council want to know more about the contract for the 311 phone line.

Even though the mayor's office released information late yesterday on the contract for the phone system that fields quality-of-life complaints, council woman Shelley Midura said there are still too many unanswered questions.

"I'm trying to get to the bottom of why the system doesn't work," Midura said.

Midura says she is particularly concerned with a two-million dollar expenditure is vaguely described as "professional services."

"What is the two million dollars that's in the mayor's office that is listed as 'professional services for 311.' It's not part of the contract extension, so what is it for," Midura asked. "Two million dollars of unexplained...to do what?"

The council did acknowledge that the mayor's office met the deadline for their request, but voted 6-nothing to begin an investigation.

WWL First News has called the mayor's office for comment. They have not returned the call.
