New Life For Champs

Chris Paul had 35 points for the Hornets but Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili had 31 apiece as the Spurs took Game 3 110 to 99. The Hornets still lead the best of seven series 2-1, but now face a critical Game 4 in San Antonio on Sunday. A Spurs win and the series heads back to the New Orleans evened up and the Hornets would have to then win a best of three series against the Defending Champs.
Game 3 went as predicted. The Spurs came out fired up and quickly established their game plan of getting Parker and Ginobili off to good starts. Drive, drive, drive and drive some more. How many of the guards' points were layups coming off of drives to the basket?
What was tough was that I thought the Hornets looked tremendous in the game as they began the game with an 8-0 lead and played a great opening half, heading into the locker room with a 56-54 lead. But how many of us were shaking out heads at HOW that half ended though? The Hornets had a 7-point lead with about 20 seconds to play but a Bowen three-pointer and Ginobili buzzer beater cut it to two.
Both teams shot in the high 40's, with the Hornets at 49-percent and the Spurs at 48-percent. A quick look at the stats shows that the Hornets were definitely in the game. Both teams headed to the line 21 times, San Antonio making 17 free throws to the Hornets 15 and the Spurs had a 43 to 41 advantage on rebound, definitely not game changing. THE STAT to me, the three pointer. The Spurs remember were 8 of 27 in game 2. Well the Hornets were 2 of 11 while the Spurs were 11 of 25. 33 points to 6...that's your game right there.
For a Game 4 win, the Hornets must limit some of those drives to the basket by Parker and Ginobili and get some production out of Janero Pargo who was 1 for 7 and put in just 2 points in game 3 loss.
What’s your take on a Game 4 win for the Hornets? |
