A ceremony in front of the New Orleans Police Headquarters this morning at 10 will honor two officers killed in the last year.
Officer Thelonius Dukes, killed in 2007 in a home invasion, and Officer Nicola Cotton, killed in January, will be honored.
The public is encouraged to attend. Deputy Chief Tony Capitello says the memorial, which has the names of all New Orleans officers killed in the line of duty, is very special to the department.
"On occasions, we'll come outside and find that some of the survivors of some of the police officers killed in the line of duty will be out here sitting on the benches, reflecting on their loved one," said Capitello. "So, it's a very poignant monument, and one we take great pride in.
Today's service will include a 21-gun salute, a full honors, a color guard, and the national anthem.
