More severe weather forecast


The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch until 11:00am and Flash Flood Watch until tonight for all of Southeast Louisiana.

It comes as another round of severe weather moves across the region.

Channel 4 Meteorologist Laura Buchtel says after some areas got more than four inches of rain yesterday, the additional rainfall can cause flooding.   She says expect rain from around 7:00am through the day and into early Friday.

The approaching system also has a history of hail and potential tornadoes.

More than 20,000 CLECO customers lost power Wednesday in strong storms. As of early this morning about 1,700 homes and businesses still had no electricity on the Northshore. CLECO hoped to have everyone back on by noon.

High winds and strong storms also downed trees and power lines along with collapsing some roofs and causing other damage to homes and businesses.

Police reported some 70 crashes as a result of the weather.

Two schools in Southeast Louisiana are closed because of the weather.  Officials says students should not report to Hammond East Side Primary or Hammond East Side Upper Elementary today.

Jefferson Parish opened two shelters for trailer residents.  They are Kings Grant Playground Meeting Room in Harvey on 15th Street and Girard Playground Meeting Room on Irving St. in Metairie.
