Judge signs off on Jefferson Parish school desegregation plan
WWL's Dave Cohen Reporting

A federal judge Wednesday agreed to a plan that aims to help desegregate Jefferson Parish Schools.
It means that thousands kids currently attending schools outside their neighborhoods will lose their transfer permits.
"We believe the westbank schools are inequal to the eastbank schools, and the schools have to get equal," a frustrated parent told WWL TV.
Superintendant Diane Rouselle says in order to make that happen, she needs the authority to shift educators around.
"I have to be able to have teachers with master's degrees at some lower performing schools," said Rouselle. |
