A Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Deputy was hurt today during a tactical training exercise in Plaquemines Parish.

"We were notifying that there was a type of accident, a shooting accident involving a Jefferson Parish SWAT team," said Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Major John Marie. He says they got to the scene and learned that "there was a discharge which resulted in the injury inside of an armored vehicle."

Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Col. John Fortunato released the following statement:

SWAT Officer David Roddy, a 16 year veteran of the JPSO sustained a gunshot wound to the leg during the exercise. Roddy along with several other SWAT officers were firing onto the range from inside of an Armored Personnel Carrier (BearCat) when a fragment struck him in the leg.
