House panel rejects statewide school voucher bill
Associated Press Reporting
|
A state House committee has rejected a school voucher bill that would have allowed some Louisiana children in kindergarten through third grade to attend private schools at taxpayer expenses.
Thursday's vote in the House Education Committee was 14-2 against the measure by Representative Patrick Williams, a Shreveport Democrat.
Members of the House Education Committee made it clear they were not ready to advance yet another voucher bill after approving a much more limited one backed by Governor Bobby Jindal. Jindal's bill provides vouchers only for low-income students in failing New Orleans schools. |
