Council threatens subpoenas in battle with Mayor's office

New Orleans City Council members are prepared to legal action in an ongoing battle with the Nagin Administration.

The controversy involes two sensitive issues: apparently malfunctioning crime survelience cameras and the city's "311" telephone call center.

The frustration has been growing for weeks, as more and more reports surface over how most of the crime cameras don't work,
and the high pricae tag of 311. City Councilwoman Shelly Midura says other tactics may have to be used.

''It's a total bust," said Midura. "I want to know whether we are going to continue to pour more down that money pit.''

Midura says unless they recieve all of the records requested from the Mayor's office, the council has subpoenas ready to be issued at Thursday's council meeting.

''We know the crime cameras don't work, and we want to know why," said Midura.
